Fidan: The Current SDF Structure Threatens Turkey’s National Security
Welat TV – Erbil
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan affirmed that the current structure of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) poses a direct threat to Turkey’s national security as well as to Syria’s territorial unity and integrity.
Speaking to members of the Turkish Parliament on Saturday, October 22, 2025, Fidan reiterated Ankara’s longstanding position on the need to eliminate security threats east of the Euphrates River while continuing diplomatic efforts to restore stability in Syria.
Fidan also pointed to Israeli military activities in southern Syria, describing them as an additional source of risk to the Syrian situation, according to Turkey’s Hurriyat newspaper.
He added, “Ensuring security and political stability is a fundamental prerequisite for launching reconstruction and achieving economic recovery in Syria.
However, the pressures driven by ongoing security concerns and conflicts make it difficult for the Syrian government to focus on these priorities.”
The foreign minister noted that Ankara continues its contacts with Damascus “across all fields and at various levels,” reiterating Turkey’s support for Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.
