Al-Sharaa Meets with the Cypriot Foreign Minister in Damascus

The Syrian interim president, Ahmed al-Shara, met with the Cypriot Foreign Minister. On Thursday, a Cypriot delegation led by Foreign Minister " Constantinos Kombos" arrived in Damascus and met with Ahmed al-Sharaa and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. According to reports, the two sides discussed several issues, including Cyprus' stance on lifting sanctions on Syria.

The Cypriot foreign minister said his meetings with Syria’s interim president had produced "encouraging results."

"The relations are deep and historic, and our goal is to see how we can help Syria’s transition to return to the international community as a full member, with the legitimacy that is expected and required " he added.

Last week, European diplomatic sources stated that "Cyprus and Greece are obstructing the lifting of European sanctions imposed on Syria and are demanding certain guarantees."
