Nechirvan Barzani, Araqchi Discuss Regional Situation by Phone

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Monday night (June 16, 2025), discussing the ongoing military confrontation between Tehran and Tel Aviv and exchanging views on its regional implications.

According to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency seen by Welat TV, the two sides emphasized the importance of preserving regional stability and avoiding further escalation.

They also called on the international community to play its role in halting hostilities and facilitating a peaceful resolution.

The call also touched on the security agreement between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, with President Barzani reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to the deal.

Both parties also discussed the risks of further developments and other issues of mutual concern.
