Qamishlo: KNC Legal Office Hosts Panel on Countering Hate Speech

The Legal Office of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) held a panel discussion to mark the "International Day for Countering Hate Speech."

The seminar took place at the Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria "PDK-S" in the city of Qamishlo in the presence of various political and civil society figures.

The discussion focused on the phenomenon of hate speech and its social impact in the Jazira region, particularly following the fall of the Assad regime. It also emphasized the importance of rejecting hate speech and promoting a culture of tolerance and social peace.

The panel was chaired by writer Shivan Ibrahim, and featured speakers including Bashir Saadi, deputy head of the Assyrian Democratic Organization, Arya Haji, executive director of the “Nextory Platform,” and politician Saddam Helosh.

In this regard, Bashir Saadi told Welat TV that the people of the region have been victims of hate speech in one form or another, and that 70% of those affected belong to minority groups.

Saadi stressed that Syria’s future or that of any society can only be built on a foundation of mutual recognition, understanding, and peace, noting that the principles of hatred and exclusion have only brought destruction to people and nations.

"We are at the forefront of a new historical period in Syria and it is our duty to spread the message against hate speech and work to build a new state based on equality, justice, pluralism, mutual recognition, democracy, equal citizenship, and legal and constitutional guarantees of the rights of all entities," he said.
