Pakistan announced today, Saturday, that it recommends awarding U.S. President Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his role in ending the recent conflict between India and Pakistan.

According to an official statement from the Pakistani government, reported by the American network CNN on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Islamabad said: “President Trump demonstrated strategic vision and diplomatic acumen through his direct intervention with New Delhi and Islamabad, which led to the de-escalation of a situation that threatened nuclear escalation.”

Avoiding a Nuclear War

Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his desire to win the prize, announced in May a sudden ceasefire that ended a four-day confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. He later said that he averted a nuclear war and “saved millions of lives.”

The crisis between the two countries began after an attack on tourists in Kashmir on April 22, for which India accused Pakistan of being behind it.

New Delhi responded on May 6 with airstrikes on Pakistani positions, resulting in many casualties, before the United States intervened to impose an immediate ceasefire on May 10, 2025.
