Syrian Aviation Responds to “Self-Administration”: Qamishlo Airport Is Closed; Its Operation Is Under Our Authority
Welat TV – Erbil
The Syrian General Body of Civil Aviation issued a statement affirming that it is the sole legally authorized entity to manage and operate airports in Syria, noting that any attempt to use airports without coordination with the Authority constitutes a violation of international aviation laws and regulations.
The statement, released today, Saturday, June 21, 2025, said: “Qamishlo International Airport is currently closed for operational reasons, as per a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation.”
The Body emphasized that the closure is effective and binding on all airlines, as well as international and local stakeholders.
This announcement follows the “Self-Administration’s declaration of forming a “General Administration of Qamishlo Airport” to oversee it.
The issued decision states that the new administration will report administratively and financially to the “Executive Council” of the “Self-Administration,” and that all administrative, financial, and staffing matters will be resolved accordingly.
