Syrian Interior Ministry: Passport Issuance Fees to Be Reduced Soon
Welat TV – Erbil
Spokesperson for the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Noraddin al-Baba, revealed that the ministry is currently reviewing a plan to reduce the fees for obtaining Syrian passports, stating that the current costs are high and do not match the financial capabilities of Syrian citizens.
In a televised interview on Saturday, June 21, 2025, al-Baba said: “There will be a reduction in Syrian passport issuance fees by approximately 50 to 70%, and this will be officially announced in the coming days.”
Regarding passport validity, al-Baba noted that the relevant authorities are studying the most appropriate and beneficial duration for passport validity in line with citizens’ interests.
He also stated that the time frame for processing passport applications is being reconsidered, after previously being limited due to the country’s exceptional circumstances.
A more reasonable processing period and fee structure are now being developed to better align with citizens' financial capacities.
