Supreme Committee for Syrian People’s Assembly Elections Appoints Legal Committee Members

The Supreme Committee for the Elections of the Syrian People’s Assembly has announced the appointment of members to its Legal Committee, which will operate under the committee’s direct supervision.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the committee published the full text of Decision No. 1, which establishes the Legal Committee.

According to the decision, the committee will be responsible for providing legal consultations, drafting legal proposals, and ensuring the legality of all procedures related to the electoral process.

This move follows Presidential Decree No. 66 of 2025, issued by Syria’s transitional president Ahmed Al-Sharaa, which established the “Supreme Committee for People’s Assembly Elections.”

According to the decree, issued on June 13, 2025, the Supreme Committee has also been tasked with overseeing the formation of electoral subcommittees, which will be responsible for electing two-thirds of the members of the People’s Assembly.
