Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani on Sunday, April 5, 2026, strongly condemned what he described as deliberate and unacceptable acts of aggression carried out by terrorist militias, warning that they pose a serious threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.

He called on the federal government to take “immediate, decisive, and concrete measures against these armed groups and outlaw militias.”

In a post on the X platform on Sunday, Barzani said: “I strongly condemn the heinous attacks carried out by terrorist militias targeting the U.S. Consulate General and civilian areas in Erbil.”

He added: “These deliberate acts of aggression constitute a serious threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the entire region, and this is unacceptable.”

He continued: “I renew my call, unequivocally, to the federal government in Baghdad to take immediate, decisive, and concrete measures against these armed groups and outlaw militias.”

Barzani concluded his statement by saying: “It is the responsibility of the federal government to use all means to thwart these terrorist attacks and bring those responsible to justice.”
