Masrour Barzani Urges Governance Based on Partnership, Balance, and Consensus in Talks with Al-Zaidi

Masrour Barzani stressed the necessity for the federal government to deal with the Kurdistan Region on the basis of fairness and equality and to manage the political process according to the principles of partnership, balance, and consensus.

This came during his meeting with Ali al-Zaidi on Saturday, May 2, 2026, where he emphasized the need to resolve outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad in accordance with the constitution in a way that safeguards the rights of the people of Kurdistan and respects the region’s constitutional entity.

Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s support for ongoing talks to form the new federal government, noting that a new opportunity is emerging to resolve disputed issues in a fundamental and lasting manner.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the current negotiations surrounding the formation of the federal government.

For his part, al-Zaidi expressed appreciation for the Kurdistan Region’s support, affirming that the strength of the Kurdistan Region is a source of strength for the federal government and offering assurances of a fair and equitable approach toward the region in the coming phase.
