The Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced the launch of a project aimed at clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance and rehabilitating agricultural infrastructure in affected areas across the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama, with funding provided by the government of Japan. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture, the United Nations Mine Action Service, and the Food and Agriculture Organization.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 14, the ministry said the project will run for two years, until February 2028, and will include survey and clearance operations, the removal of war remnants, and awareness campaigns on the dangers of explosive materials in targeted areas. The initiative will also involve the rehabilitation of irrigation wells and agricultural canals, technical support and essential assistance for farming families, and efforts to enable local communities to safely access agricultural lands and water resources.

The ministry noted that the project focuses on agricultural regions damaged near former frontlines, with the aim of enhancing civilian safety, supporting agricultural recovery, and improving livelihoods. It added that the initiative represents an important step toward protecting civilians and creating a safer and more stable environment for affected communities.
