Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, condemned Israeli policies aimed at weakening neighboring countries through direct military intervention, describing them as “short-sighted policies,” and called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syria.

Speaking during a session of the United Nations Security Council on Syria on Friday, May 15, Nebenzya stated that humanitarian needs in Syria remain “enormous,” pointing to sharp increases in the prices of wheat, flour, and fuel, which are directly affecting the most vulnerable segments of the population.

He affirmed that Russia intends to continue its multifaceted cooperation with Syria based on long-standing friendship and mutual respect.

Nebenzya also expressed concern over the conditions of the healthcare, water, and sanitation sectors, noting that 15.8 million people are in urgent need of medical assistance amid shortages of medicine, equipment, and healthcare personnel.

He welcomed the gradual rehabilitation of transportation networks, particularly Damascus International Airport and Aleppo International Airport, in addition to the expansion of border crossings with Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey.
