Masrour Barzani and Al-Zaidi Discuss Cooperation and Coordination to Resolve Outstanding Issues

Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi discussed joint coordination and cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in order to resolve outstanding issues, remove obstacles, and overcome current challenges.

The meeting took place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Baghdad as part of the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister’s current visit to the Iraqi capital.

At the beginning of the meeting, Masrour Barzani renewed his congratulations to the federal prime minister on gaining parliament’s confidence and assuming office, expressing the Kurdistan Regional Government’s support for the success of his cabinet in serving all Iraqi citizens and components equally. He also stressed the importance of fundamentally resolving the disputed issues between the two sides in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution, while respecting the federal entity of the Kurdistan Region.

For his part, Prime Minister al-Zaidi expressed his pleasure at hosting the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister in Baghdad, stating: “We are all partners in this country, and our goal is to solve problems, reach agreements, and serve all citizens and components without discrimination.”

Both sides shared a common vision on strengthening coordination and joint cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in order to settle outstanding disputes, remove obstacles, and overcome the current challenges.
