The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, affirmed the existence of a positive atmosphere and genuine intentions to resolve the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, stressing the importance of guaranteeing the constitutional rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region and completing the establishment of federal state institutions.

In a statement to reporters on Saturday, May 23, 2026, following his meeting with the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, Masrour Barzani said, “The meetings and discussions we have held with Iraqi officials so far have been highly positive,” expressing satisfaction with the outcomes of the meetings held with federal government officials.

He added, “We hope to achieve even better results in the coming phase,” noting that the meetings revealed a shared desire to address the existing issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.

Regarding the electricity issue, the prime minister of the Kurdistan Region explained that the region has expressed its readiness to share its successful experience with the “Ronaki” project with the rest of Iraq, noting that both sides discussed ways to strengthen joint cooperation, especially with the approaching summer season and the increasing demand for electricity.

The Prime Minister emphasized that “the Kurdistan Region will spare no effort in assisting Iraq in securing electricity for all citizens,” noting his government’s readiness to provide all possible support in this regard.

Regarding the implementation of the constitution, Barzani noted that his meeting with the president of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council emphasized the need to guarantee all constitutional rights for the people of the Kurdistan Region, in addition to discussing the importance of completing the construction of federal state institutions in a way that ensures laws are not violated and citizens’ rights are protected.
