More Than 368,000 Students Sit for Secondary School Examinations in Syria

Secondary school examinations began across Syria today for both the scientific and literary streams, in addition to Sharia secondary education and vocational secondary education in its industrial, commercial, and home economics branches. The examinations are being held in 1,570 examination centers distributed across the country’s various governorates.

A total of 368,596 students sat for the examinations on Saturday, June 6, 2026, across all branches. This includes 215,258 students in the scientific stream, 127,343 students in the literary stream, 23,267 students in vocational secondary education, and 2,728 students in Sharia secondary education.

As part of the preparations for the examination process, units of the Internal Security Forces and the police, in coordination between the Ministries of Education and Interior, secured the transportation of examination papers to accredited centers across the governorates under strict measures designed to ensure confidentiality and the smooth conduct of the examinations.

Rafah al-Boushi al-Dabbagh, Director of Education in Damascus, stated in remarks to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the process of transporting and distributing examination papers from the printing center to examination venues proceeded smoothly and in an orderly manner.

She noted that all examination centers had received the papers in accordance with approved procedures that guarantee their confidentiality until the official start of the examinations.

Meanwhile, video footage published by SANA from the al-Matouna checkpoint at the northern entrance to the city of Suwayda showed that no groups of students from the governorate had arrived to sit for the examinations.

This was attributed to the continued actions of groups described by official authorities as “outlaws,” who have prevented students from leaving the governorate and traveling to the examination centers designated by the Ministry of Education in Damascus and the Damascus countryside.
