Syrian Interior Ministry: Hundreds of Wanted Individuals Arrested Over Three Months

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of 331 wanted individuals and the apprehension of 34 security figures from the Assad regime, including Amjad Youssef, identified as the principal perpetrator of the 2013 Tadamon massacre, during the past three months.

In statistics published on Friday, June 5, 2026, the ministry said its units had analyzed 11,979 case files over the previous three months. It added, "A total of 5,243 documents in the general criminal record database were reviewed, 3,021 security reports were processed, 1,041 investigations were completed, and 1,397 defendants were referred to the public prosecution."

On April 24, 2026, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of the primary suspect in the Tadamon massacre in Damascus, Amjad Youssef, during what it described as a carefully planned security operation carried out in the al-Ghab Plain in the Hama countryside.

On April 26, the first court session began for Atef Najib, a cousin of Bashar al-Assad, on charges related to crimes committed against the Syrian people.

Najib had served as head of the Political Security Branch in Daraa Governorate, where the popular protests of 2011 began, and is considered responsible for a broad campaign of repression and arrests there.

The new Syrian authorities arrested him in January 2025. Najib’s trial follows the prosecution of Wassim al-Assad, another relative of the deposed president, as well as pilots accused of participating in the bombardment of Syrian cities and towns during the years of the uprising.

In addition, on May 10, 2026, the Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus issued a ruling stripping former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his brother Maher al-Assad of their civil rights and placing their movable and immovable assets under the administration of the Syrian government, in accordance with Article 322 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
