Public Transportation Drivers Hold Demonstration in Qamishlo
Welat TV – Erbil
Public transportation drivers operating on the Hizam route in Qamishlo staged a demonstration, protesting the reduction of their subsidized fuel allocation and the authorization of vans to operate on the same route.
On Sunday, dozens of public transportation drivers staged a protest in Qamishlo.
The drivers said their daily diesel fuel allocation had previously been 30 liters but has now been reduced to 11.25 liters.
They also said there are 73 taxis operating on the Hizam route, a relatively high number compared to the approximately 150 households in the area.
However, permits have also been granted for van drivers to operate on the same route, a move they say has negatively affected their livelihoods.
The protesters called on the relevant authorities to address both issues affecting drivers on the Hizam route.
