President al-Sharaa Appoints Four New National Security and Intelligence Officials

Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued a series of decrees appointing senior officials to key national security and intelligence positions.
On July 19, 2026, al-Sharaa appointed four officials to senior security posts.
The appointments include the following: Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab was appointed director of the National Security Office while continuing his current duties as interior minister.
Hussein Salamah, formerly head of the General Intelligence Directorate, was appointed Deputy Director of the National Security Office.
Abdulqadir Tahan, formerly Deputy Interior Minister, was appointed Director of the General Intelligence Directorate.
Mulhim Shantout, formerly commander of internal security in Hama Province, was appointed assistant interior minister for security affairs.
