Kuwait: Several Power and Water Desalination Plants Taken Offline Following Iranian Attacks

Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, that several power generation and water desalination plants have been taken out of service following continued Iranian attacks.

In a statement, the ministry said that multiple electricity and desalination facilities came under attack for the fourth consecutive day on Monday evening, causing fires to break out at several sites.

It added that emergency response teams, in coordination with the Kuwait Fire Force and security agencies, responded immediately, bringing the fires under control and assessing the damage.

Repair and rehabilitation work are now underway to restore the affected facilities. The ministry also said that a number of power generation units were temporarily shut down as a precautionary operational measure to safeguard equipment and maintain the stability of the country's electricity and water networks.

Kuwait, along with several Gulf states and Jordan, has been subjected to repeated Iranian attacks since the outbreak of the war between the United States and Iran more than four months ago. Tehran says the attacks are aimed at U.S. military bases and facilities in the region.
