U.S. Military: Latest Wave of Strikes on Iran Concludes, Strait of Hormuz Remains Open

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, that it had targeted Iranian naval capabilities, aircraft shelters, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure in an effort to degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, CENTCOM said it had completed the 11th consecutive night of military strikes against Iran, adding that Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months.

The command stressed that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial shipping, noting that since May, U.S. forces have helped facilitate the safe passage of nearly 900 commercial vessels carrying approximately 450 million barrels of crude oil.

Meanwhile, Iran activated its air defense systems in the capital, Tehran, amid reports of strikes and explosions in several parts of the country, hours after the United States announced the completion of its latest round of operations.

According to Iran's IRNA news agency, explosions were reported in Bushehr Province, home to the country's only nuclear power plant, as well as in southern and northwestern Iran.

The conflict began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran.

Tehran responded by targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases, raising regional and international concerns over a wider conflict and its potential impact on global security and energy markets, despite ongoing mediation efforts that have yet to produce a comprehensive agreement.
